Who do ebay sellers buy their loose diamonds from that they resell?

Again my husband and I are trying to start a very small jewelry boutique in Montana. I have tried a LOT of wholesale places to buy my diamonds from, but after checking their prices, they aren't truly wholesale. I would like to know where e-bay sellers buy their loose diamonds from. Lots of them are nice diamonds and quite reasonable, but here again, I can't buy from e-bay to re-sell as the cost would be too high. Please, does anyone know some of the places that e-bay sellers are buying their loose diamonds from? I need help fast!

They are all fakes and come from China. I am kidding, of course. Sometimes the lot sales of diamonds maybe worth the price on ebay. Other recommendations: See if you can find trade magazines about jewelery and gemstones and check their articles and advertisements for whoelsale resources. Visit trade shows and make connections. And finally, perhaps you can find a friendly jeweler outside of your market area that can help you find wholesale sources.

What is the reason for purchasing loose diamonds?

I am very curious to know why would someone purchase loose diamonds. And what is the benefit from doing this.

the reason why people purchase loose gems is because they want a personalized setting.
for example, if you see a ruby ring at macys, but you hate the gaudy setting, you can opt to simply buy the ruby & then take it to a jeweler who will create the setting that you want.

What are the best ways to value and then sale loose diamonds?

I want to know how I can get a value for some loose diamonds. I want to know the proper way to sale them. The way that is standard and in a way that I am not representing them as being of any quality size standard. Because zi do not understand how to value them to begin with.
And can this be done in Utah . northern utah? Would it be better to travel somewhere else, within a thousand miles of Utah.

What will I need other than the gems to get them valued and sold?

The wholesale price for diamonds is determined largely by a company called Rapaport in New York. Their price lists are expensive though.

In general though, you may need to talk to some local jewellers (look for one who does appraisals) to get them valued. Make sure that they're people you trust.
