Other Montana sapphire localities are located on the Missouri River about 15 miles NE of Helena. If you look at a Highway map you will see Canyon Ferry Dam east of Helena, and just to the west of it is Hauser Lake. Spokane Bar is on the south side, west of the Dam and Eldorado Bar is NW of that on the north side of the lake/river. Http://www.minerals-n-more.com/Sapph_Mt_Info.html

At Gem Mountain, gravel dug by the mine owners is purchased and sorted for its sapphires. Every bucket is guaranteed to contain at least some sapphires. It is not necessary for the visitor to bring any equipment to the mine, as the facility provides everything a visitor needs to find their own Montana sapphires. Company staff teach how it is done, and do all the heavy lifting, so all the visitor has to do is show up and sift through the gravel to find the sapphires hidden in each bucket. From May 19th through October 9th, the Gem Mountain sapphire mine is open to the public seven days a week, from 9:00 am until 5:00 p.m. (from Memorial Day to Labor Day, evening hours are extended until 7 pm).

The “Yogo” sapphire, a cornflower blue is unique among the world’s sapphires. The cornflower blue is natural and lack the color zoning prevalent in other sapphires. The clarity is uniformly high.
Montana's agate deposits are also spectacular. For more visit: Http://skywalker.cochise.edu/wellerr/students/montanagem/sapphire.htm

We've been in NE Oregon for thundereggs, and Montana for sapphires & such. just want to keep ideas in the back of our minds for potential vacations.

Would I travel to Ringing Rocks all the way from Oregon just to hear the rocks ring? I don't think so. But, if I were in the NYC/Phila area and if I were a rock hound...

Check out Opal Mountain Gems in Philipsburg, Montana. They just started bringing in some great sapphire gravel from their private claim on the El Dorado Bar. Bags are just $45/ea or 5/$200 - They just started selling it about a month ago and already had 2 customers report finding individual nice stones in the 12 carat range. Lots more in the 2 to 6 carat range. Should make for some happy sapphire searchers in the summer! If you have any questions, contact Anna at 406-560-7469.
