Your Questions About Beryllium
June 10th, 2011 by Diamond Lover

Linda asks…

Beryllium?

Where does it come from?
I'm doing a research paper for science, and I can't find where it comes from.
We can't use wikipedia, so please give me a good reliable website.
thanks.

Diamond Lover answers:

I think this has about all that you will need on it: http://www.webelements.com/beryllium/ or http://periodic.lanl.gov/4.shtml

Sharon asks…

How do you write a song about Beryllium to the tune of a nursery rhyme?

Im doing a chemistry project on Beryllium, and I was assigned to make up a song about Beryllium to the tune of any nursery rhyme.
The facts I have so far about it are that the symbol is "Be", the atomic number is four, it was discovered in France in 1798, and has the atomic mass of 9.
Would someone please help me or think of a nursery rhyme I could put this information to? Thanks!

Diamond Lover answers:

You have to use beryllium? Because not much rhymes with that... still here goes...

To twinkle twinkle little star...

Beryllium number four
is something you shouldn't ignore
found in 1798
boy that year was really great
sometimes it is called BE
add one and you'd have just B (boron number 5...)

It is not Shakespeare or the Beatles, but that's a tricky element to work with ...
you could also just repeat the first two lines at the end like it does in twinkle twinkle little star...

Susan asks…

Why are Beryllium and nitrogen exceptions to the general increase in first ionisation?

Beryllium and nitrogen are exceptions to the general increase in first ionisation energies shown by the other elements in the second period on going from left to right. Why is that?

Diamond Lover answers:

N has a half filled p subshell
Be has a full 2s shell

Half full and completely full subshells are little islands of stability

Carol asks…

Why is beryllium a better choice than iron to use in an alloy for making airplanes?

Why is beryllium a better choice than iron to use in an alloy for making airplanes?

Diamond Lover answers:

Beryllium is lightweight.

Sandy asks…

What is the wavelength and frequency of beryllium?

Please help, need wavelength and frequency of the element beryllium. Thanks!

Diamond Lover answers:

Elements do not have a single frequency or wavelength...there are numerous "options".
