How do you give a magnetic charge to hematite?

I got myself a pendulum today and chose my stone to be hematite. I loved the idea of being able to pick up on magnetic energies when communicating with spirits.
When I brought my hematite home I noticed it wasn't magnetic like all the others I had. I took it back to the store and they told me to give it a magnetic charge.
So, how does one add a magnetic charge to some hematite?

Magnetism is 'contained' in what are called 'magnetic domains'. Each magnetic particle is aligned to a random orientation until they are forcibly aligned to the same orientation to 'emit lines of magnetic force' in the same direction. The effects of these magnetic particles is cumulative, so the omnidirectional magnetic force may be aligned to form a single polarized force.

Placing the hematite in a strong magnetic field will align the magnetic particles. Running a direct current through a ferrous conductor will also cause alignment of the magnetic particles. Using an alternating current will degauss a magnet.

Why does my hematite cause nightmares when I wear it to bed?

I noticed that when I wear my hematite around my neck to bed (often) I have nightmares and feel tired all day. Can somebody help me to figure out what is wrong?

It seems you are sensitive to the energy around you. Lots of people are. Many of them are female.

So if you are energy sensitive -- there are "properties" associated with hematite -- wearing it to bed if you're sensitive could give you reactions in sleeping. I'd stop wearing any crystal to sleep if I were you. Hematite is a stone of healing, grounding, fortune telling, meditation, stabilization and protection. Symantics?

Perhaps, it depends on the infrastructure and the economics for digging it up and processing it. Our ore here has a lot of magnetite in it, but it is considered waste of time to dig it up. We don't have the facilities to process it. We are more after the zinc and copper that is in the ore body and not the iron...

Can I use jewelry cleaner on a gold and hematite ring?

I have Connoisseurs Revitalizing jewelry cleaner. Can I use it to clean my gold and hematite ring? Will it ruin the hematite?

Yes, you can clean the gold... However, as you don't know exactly the composition of your specific cleaner, try to avoid direct contact with the hematite, just to be on the safe side...

what is the value of hematite in its most raw form?

I found a rock that i initially thought was a meteorite, after some simple tests i have come to the conclusion that it isn't a metoerite but a lump of hematite. I'm wondering whether to sell it for profit or keep it as a nice ornament?

A hand specimen of hematite doesn't have that much value unless you have some nice crystals instead of a massive piece. Rock collectors and geology students generally go to abandoned mines and fill their trailers and truck beds for free, or swap with others.

    What an interesting site! What I would like to know is: I recently bought a hematite necklace for myself. Its a comfortable weight, all hematite beads with a hematite cresent moon pendant fitting at a choker length, and is quite enjoyable to wear. But for some odd reason, it seems as if it shifts itself. I can be sitting and barely moving my head, and yet it will move around my neck slowly. If I leave it alone, it will go all the way around with the pendant to the back and stay there. Is there a reason it does this? I have never had another necklace that did this, and I am curious to know why it does this weird trick…

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated! :)

      An interesting problem…

      Since hematite reacts to magnetic fields, it could be interacting with your personal electrical/magnetic field which is causing the movement. Or it could be a simple imbalance in the weight of the choker so that it hangs better with the pendant in the back…

      Any other suggestions please comment…
